Founded by independent school leaders and teachers, Folio traces its roots to McDonogh School in Baltimore, Maryland. In 2007, McDonogh sought a more effective and meaningful teacher evaluation program, moving from a “check the box” mentality to a deeper, more personalized professional growth strategy. Word of the updated process and platform spread and peer schools wanted to join McDonogh, leading to the formal establishment of Folio Collaborative as a nonprofit organization in 2012. This growth reflected a broader need for sustainable, personalized professional growth programs that empower educators and improve student outcomes.

Today, Folio Collaborative continues to support independent schools worldwide in their professional growth journeys. We are committed to helping schools rethink how they approach teacher evaluation and professional development, moving from traditional evaluation-focused systems to growth-oriented approaches. Our platform maintains confidentiality while giving appropriate school leaders and peers visibility into professional growth. This fosters a culture of continuous improvement and mutual support.

We believe that getting teachers talking, learning from each other, and collaborating is essential to building better school cultures and maximizing teacher strengths.
